How to automate the splitting of unified vCard files into multiple contacts?

I recently exported my contacts from an old phone, and now I have a single, large unified vCard (vcf) file that contains hundreds of contacts. Unfortunately, my new phone does not import them properly unless each contact is saved as an individual VCF file.

Is there any reliable way to automate the process of splitting this single vCard file into separate VCF files (one per contact), preferably using a free tool or script? I appreciate any suggestions, tools you can share to solve this.
