  • Debunking the Myostatin myth......

I'm sure many if not all of you have heard / read that the build up of Myostatin over time inhibits gains............

The following is an eye opening study on the matter:

Load-mediated downregulation of myostatin mRNA is not sufficient to promote myofiber hypertrophy in humans: a cluster analysis

Yup, for the longest time I bought into the myth of Myostatin increases hampering progress. Seems like it's not true!

Amazing! So is it just bro science that has been passed down? This has been parroted so freaking much. I think more as a scare tactic. Wonder how long this will be up before it is copied? Thanks Dan!

I wouldn't say it is 100% bro-science. Fact of the matter is that the role and impact of Myostatin is not 100% understood, and it seems to vary quite considerably between species (for example, rodents and mice have MUCH higher Myostatin levels than humans do, which is why when inhibiting Myostatin in mice and rats, they exploded with muscle growth - but the same doesn't happen in humans). Oh, and thank Bear for that study lol.

I dont think anything contained with in that particualr study is anything new or unknown. (If) I read it right is simply states that Myostatin levels drop post workout and that it was thye same for everyone no matter age.

What it didnt talk about is the proven fact that Mystatin levels are genetic preset levels for each of us as indivuduals. It's what determines our genetic limit for the most part. In order to grow and maintain size over the pre-set genetic limits we would need to find a way to inhibit myostatin. This is why we talk about AAS needing to be used constant in order to maintain size over genetic limits and the closer you get to that size the more difficult it becomes to grow.
